<Events Urging Halt of Fukushima Nuclear Contaminated Water Discharge>
Following the 'Pacific Funeral' performance on the 16th, an event opposing the discharge of Fukushima contaminated water took place at Santa Monica Beach over the weekend.
Jaden, a 4th-grade elementary student who attended the event with his family, said, "I found out from the news that Japan is dumping nuclear contaminated water into the Pacific. I'm going to talk to my friends at school about protecting the ocean for our future."
Timothy, who came to the event with his friends to volunteer after learning about it on social media, distributed pamphlets in English and Spanish to the participants, urging, "Let's all protect our ocean together."
The artists, Andrea and Peter, who volunteered for face painting at the event, said, "It was a very meaningful event," and expressed their desire to participate again if given the opportunity. Another volunteer, Jihyun Yoo said, "I didn't expect so many people to be interested. It was a rewarding time."
The 'LA Candlelight Action,' which organized both events, plans to continue holding events to raise awareness of the dangers of Fukushima contaminated water discharge until Japan ceases the discharge. They also announced that they will soon start billboard advertisements to reach even more people.
Every Wednesday from 12 PM to 1 PM, they hold a protest in front of the Japanese Consulate in downtown Los Angeles, urging the halt of Fukushima nuclear contaminated water discharge.
